About this project

Sherpa guides, despite undertaking a crucial and often life-threatening role, earn an average of only $4,000 to $5,000, significantly less than the approximately $50,000 earned by their Western counterparts. The profound reliance of climbers on Sherpas for summiting Everest is underscored by data indicating that 93% of successful expeditions utilized hired personnel, predominantly Sherpas. Many experienced Sherpas have themselves achieved multiple summits while guiding, as evidenced by leaderboards recognizing their exceptional number of successful Everest bids. Since 1905, a total of 2,795 individuals have served as hired personnel, with 8% succumbing to various causes, predominantly avalanches. Information regarding the deceased is available in the bottom section of this page
